In the first year of World War One, SMS Emden ran riot through the Indian Ocean under the command of her steely commander von Müller. The light cruiser would hunt for solitary enemy merchant ships, and capture their crews before sinking them, exacting a huge toll on crucial Allied shipping lanes. The adventure came to a thrilling end when, in a gun duel with the Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney, Emden was run aground on remote North Keeling Island.
